Lummus & Advanced Ionics partner to accelerate green hydrogen solutions

Lummus and Advanced Ionics Signing Ceremony

Lummus Technology, a global leader in process technologies and energy solutions, has announced a strategic partnership with Advanced Ionics, a provider of cost-effective green hydrogen technology. The collaboration includes an investment from Lummus Venture Capital aimed at accelerating the commercialisation of Advanced Ionics’ hydrogen electrolyser technology and supporting decarbonisation across the refining, gas processing, and petrochemical sectors. Lummus will also contribute engineering services and proprietary equipment to expand green hydrogen production for both new projects and existing hydrogen users or producers.

“Lummus has a proven track record of serving as a launchpad for innovative technologies. With Advanced Ionics, we will leverage this experience to develop and deploy cost-efficient solutions that advance green hydrogen production and help decarbonize key sectors of the downstream energy industry,” said Leon de Bruyn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lummus Technology.

Chad Mason, CEO of Advanced Ionics, “Water vapor electrolysers address two of the biggest challenges to expanding green hydrogen production: capital costs and electricity requirements. Our partnership with Lummus Technology – and their additional investment – marks a pivotal next step in accelerating the commercialisation of technology, which was purpose-built for decarbonizing heavy industry.”

Advanced Ionics’ Symbion™ Electrolysers, which use waste heat and low-cost clean electricity, require up to 40% less electricity per kilogram of hydrogen compared to traditional alkaline and PEM technologies. The electrolysers’ modular design enables rapid deployment, easy operation, and maintenance while reducing capital costs through readily available components.
