Mizuho Bank invests $20m in Pollination to advance decarbonisation efforts

Mizuho Bank has announced a strategic partnership with Pollination Global Holdings Limited aimed at supporting clients in their decarbonisation efforts. As part of this collaboration, Mizuho has invested $20 million to acquire a partial equity stake in Pollination, a climate change investment and advisory firm dedicated to accelerating the transition to a net-zero, nature-positive future.

Established in 2019, Pollination partners with financial institutions, corporations, and governments to implement ambitious transition strategies. The firm assembles leaders from various sectors, including finance, corporate governance, technology, and policy, to develop sustainable solutions for climate challenges.

The partnership will concentrate on assisting clients in executing their climate and nature transition strategies. This includes providing strategic advisory services, facilitating access to investment opportunities in transition sectors, and collaborating to create innovative approaches to sustainable finance. The initiative aims to enhance clients’ efforts in areas such as natural capital, biodiversity strategy, and carbon market participation.

Mizuho Bank is committed to helping clients navigate decarbonisation and other sustainability challenges by transforming their organisations and facilitating the adoption of next-generation technologies. By leveraging Pollination’s expertise in climate change advisory and Mizuho’s extensive customer base and industry knowledge, the partnership will bolster support for clients addressing complex climate-related issues.

Pollination Founder & CEO Martijn Wilder said, “Mizuho Bank is a highly sophisticated partner in sustainable finance. This investment is a significant vote of confidence in our business, marking the beginning of a powerful strategic partnership that will accelerate our reach and impact.”

Pollination Founder & Executive Chair Tony O’Sullivan said, “Given the critical role of finance in unlocking climate change solutions, particularly across Asia, we are delighted to have established such a significant partnership.”

Mizuho Financial Group’s Group Chief Sustainability Officer Yasuhiko Ushikubo said, “Our clients around the world are encountering a broad spectrum of sustainability-related requirements against the backdrop of accelerating change. Supporting them with proven expertise and strategies, applied with a global perspective, is essential. Through this alliance and close partnership with Pollination, we will help our clients develop and implement tactics to navigate these nuanced challenges while helping contribute to resolving climate change issues and realising a nature-positive future in Asia and the rest of the world.”
