AIM-Progress and the Consumer Goods Forum Human Rights Coalition, in collaboration with the Fair Labour Association (FLA) and Proforest, have introduced the Converged Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) Assessment Tool. This open-source resource is designed to help businesses identify, mitigate, and manage environmental and human rights risks in their operations and supply chains.
The tool aims to standardise terminology, standards, and methodologies for evaluating HREDD maturity across industries, particularly in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector. By offering a unified framework, it enables companies to improve their due diligence processes, ensuring compliance with the UN Guiding Principles (UNGPs) and OECD Due Diligence Guidance.
Businesses can use the tool to assess their own HREDD systems and collaborate with suppliers to address gaps in supply chain operations. By providing actionable insights, the tool promotes supplier engagement and continuous improvement, fostering best practices in human rights and environmental due diligence.
The assessment tool also seeks to reduce reporting burdens for suppliers working with multiple purchasers while encouraging global consistency across sectors. Companies can evaluate their HREDD system maturity at the parent company level, applying the framework to both goods and service providers.
By making the tool openly available, the initiative aims to establish a common industry standard for evaluating HREDD preparedness. This collaborative effort advances corporate responsibility and promotes sustainable supply chain practices, ensuring businesses are better equipped to address critical human rights and environmental concerns.
