The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Harry Boyd-Carpenter as Managing Director of its Sustainable Infrastructure Group (SIG), effective 1 January 2025. SIG oversees the Bank’s operations in municipal infrastructure, transport, and energy sectors, which together constitute about one-third of the EBRD’s annual business activity.
Boyd-Carpenter has been a key figure in advancing the EBRD’s green transition as Managing Director of Climate Strategy & Delivery since 2021. In this role, he coordinated efforts to achieve the Bank’s goal of 50% green investments annually and ensured alignment with the Paris Agreement.
His nearly two-decade career at the EBRD includes leading the Power and Energy Utilities team within SIG and serving in the Corporate Strategy department and the Office of the General Counsel. Before joining the Bank in 2005, Boyd-Carpenter worked as a lawyer at Allen & Overy and contributed to reconstruction initiatives with the European Agency for Reconstruction in Kosovo.
Jürgen Rigterink, EBRD First Vice President said, “Harry Boyd-Carpenter’s extensive experience and dedication to sustainability will play a vital role as SIG continues to address infrastructure challenges and support the EBRD’s mission across its regions.”
Boyd-Carpenter will succeed Nandita Parshad, who retires at the end of 2024 after a distinguished career at the EBRD. Under his leadership, SIG is expected to further strengthen its role in addressing critical climate challenges while supporting the development of resilient infrastructure in its countries of engagement.
