US EPA announce $250m grant for zero-emission freight corridor

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), joined by U.S. Representatives Frank Pallone, Jr. and Rob Menendez, along with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn LaTourette, celebrated the awarding of nearly $250 million to the Clean Corridor Coalition. This significant grant, part of the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program, will support the development of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure for zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicles along the Interstate-95 freight corridor.

During the announcement at the Vince Lombardi Service Area in Ridgefield, New Jersey, EPA Regional Administrator Lisa Garcia emphasized the transformative nature of the project, which is a key initiative of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. The $248.9 million grant will fund 24 charging sites equipped with 450 charging ports across four states, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 18.6 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent by 2050.

The initiative will also provide job training for 400 workers, with a focus on opportunities for low-income communities. By reducing emissions in the transportation sector, the project promises to deliver environmental and economic benefits, positioning the region as a leader in clean energy infrastructure.
