The Singapore Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) Sustainability Certification Framework has achieved Global Sustainable Tourism Council’s (GSTC) Recognised Standard status, marking a significant milestone for Singapore’s MICE industry. This recognition means the framework aligns fully with the GSTC MICE Criteria, Version 1.0.
Developed by the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS) with the support of the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and in consultation with industry stakeholders, the MSC framework builds on the first MICE Sustainability Certification introduced in 2016. It reflects Singapore’s proactive approach to addressing the environmental, social, cultural, and economic impacts of the MICE sector.
Richard Ireland, President of SACEOS, described the recognition as a significant step forward for the sector. “This recognition underscores our unwavering commitment to advancing sustainability in our industry and aligning with global best practices. It reflects the collective efforts of our industry stakeholders in driving meaningful change towards a more sustainable future,” he said.
Randy Durband, CEO of GSTC, also praised Singapore’s efforts for the initiative. “With the MSC Framework, Singapore demonstrates its commitment to global sustainability by aligning with the principles of the Four Pillars of the GSTC Criteria, paving the way for a more sustainable future,” he noted. Currently, 74 standards worldwide have achieved GSTC-Recognised status, signifying that they align with international sustainability norms set by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
