S&P Dow Jones Indices (S&P DJI), a global leader in index provision, has announced the results of the annual rebalancing and reconstitution of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). These indices, which track companies based on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, are float-adjusted and market-capitalisation weighted.
The DJSI, including the flagship Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World), were introduced in 1999 as the first global benchmarks for sustainability. They encompass global, regional, and country-specific indices, setting the standard for ESG performance measurement.
Following this year’s review, the three largest additions and deletions to the DJSI World, based on free-float market capitalisation. The additions include Airbus SE, Schlumberger Ltd, BAE Systems Plc and the deletions are Alphabet Inc, UnitedHealth Group Inc, ASML Holding NV.
These changes will take effect on Monday, 23 December 2024. The full list of updated DJSI constituents will also be available on the same date.
In addition, S&P DJI has announced plans to rename its sustainability and ESG-related indices. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices will be rebranded as the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices, effective Monday, 10 February 2025. While the name changes, the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) Scores will remain integral to the selection of constituents under the new branding.
This rebranding aligns with ongoing updates to the index family’s structure and naming conventions, with the aim of better reflecting their role as ESG performance benchmarks.
