The Hydrogen Zero Emission Maritime (HyZEM) project will receive £1.44 million ($1.8 million) in funding to develop green hydrogen technology for high-powered workboats using low-carbon storage and propulsion. The project facilitated by Freeport East includes businesses from the UK and Australian businesses that specialise in green hydrogen storage and propulsion technologies and aims to reduce the risks of deployment of new technologies in the green marine sector.
The HyZEM project has already secured funding from Innovate UK and will receive funds from Australia’s Department of Climate Change, Energy and Environment and Water. The international collaboration will demonstrate applications for green hydrogen storage and propulsion on vessels, including bunkering technology, port storage, refuelling infrastructure, and how it will support local supply chains.
