American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has introduced a new sustainability recommendations feature for corporate travel, aimed at helping organisations reduce their carbon emissions through tailored, data-led insights. The tool is now available to users of Egencia, Amex GBT’s travel management platform.
Among the first of its kind, the new feature offers travel managers a clear view of their company’s carbon footprint and provides customised guidance on how to reduce emissions while managing travel costs. Developed in direct response to feedback from travel managers, the solution integrates seamlessly into existing travel programmes and is designed for ease of use and actionable impact.
Key features of the platform include:
- Air vs Rail Analysis: Encourages the use of rail for shorter trips by comparing emissions and cost against air travel.
- Carbon-Efficient Flights: Highlights flight options with lower-than-average carbon emissions.
- Cabin Class Adjustments: Recommends lower-emission cabin classes based on flight duration.
- SAF Integration: Offers visibility into the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with insights from Avelia, one of the industry’s leading SAF procurement platforms.
These recommendations are accessible via a new sustainability dashboard in the personalised analytics studio and can be easily implemented through direct links to policy settings, giving travel managers greater autonomy over their programmes.
“We understand that companies want to make more informed, responsible decisions about travel,” said John Sturino, SVP of Product and Engineering at Amex GBT. “This new feature empowers travel managers to take control of the environmental impact of their programmes.”
Nora Lovell Marchant, VP of Global Sustainability at Amex GBT, added: “We are putting sustainability solutions front and centre by helping clients close the gap between ambition and action with data-informed guidance.”
The new tool builds on Amex GBT’s recent launch of an emissions-based carbon pricing solution, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to enabling more sustainable business travel.
