BMW licenses two urban micromobility concepts to China’s Luyuan Group

The BMW Group has licensed two of its urban micromobility concepts — “Dynamic Cargo” and “Clever Commute” — to Chinese electric two-wheeler manufacturer Luyuan Group.

The two concepts were originally developed by BMW to address transport challenges in congested cities. Dynamic Cargo is a three-wheeled electric cargo bike designed to offer the manoeuvrability of a traditional bicycle while providing a stable platform for carrying goods, with optional modular weather protection. Clever Commute is a foldable e-kickscooter intended for short-distance travel and ease of storage on public transport or in private vehicles.

Luyuan plans to use the licensed technology to develop light mobility vehicles for a range of urban settings and introduce them to global markets under its own brands.

Dr Jochen Karg, Head of Vehicle Concepts at BMW Group, said the licensing agreement supports BMW’s long-term thinking on urban transport challenges.
“We are pleased to grant Luyuan the rights to the Dynamic Cargo and Clever Commute concepts, which is part of our initiatives focused on the future of urban mobility,” he said. “Through our collaborative approach, we aim to contribute to city-friendly transport systems by enhancing the interconnectedness of urban mobility and promoting micromobility solutions for the last mile.”

Luyuan Group CEO Hu Jihong described the agreement as an important step in the company’s international expansion, noting its collaboration with BMW’s Munich-based design studio and engineering partners.

“This partnership with the BMW Group marks a key step in our global strategy,” she said, adding that the work combines Chinese manufacturing capabilities with European technical input to develop products tailored for a wide range of markets.
