United States alternative asset manager Brookfield has agreed to invest up to $600 million in Indian clean energy developer ACME Cleantech Ventures to support the development and construction of green ammonia and green methanol projects.
The capital injection will be executed through the Brookfield Global Transition Fund strategy, marking the asset manager’s initial entry into the South Asian low-carbon fuels market.
ACME will utilise the funding to advance its project development pipeline across India and Oman, targeting the expansion of green ammonia production for both domestic distribution and international export markets. The company has already secured commercial off-take and supply agreements with global buyers, including Norway’s Yara International, Japan’s IHI Corporation and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical, alongside domestic Indian off-takers.
Key operational metrics and market context include:
- Investment Scale: Up to $600 million committed via the Brookfield Global Transition Fund strategy.
- Geographic Scope: Funding supports project engineering, development, and construction assets across India and Oman.
- Target Commodities: Production expansion focused primarily on green ammonia and green methanol derivatives for industrial decarbonisation.
- Sponsor Portfolio: The transaction expands Brookfield’s established footprint in India’s renewable energy sector, where it holds an operating and development pipeline of approximately 50 gigawatts of solar and wind capacity.
The investment comes as global industrial sectors accelerate the procurement of zero-emission fuel alternatives to displace conventional fossil-fuel inputs and satisfy tightening international regulatory requirements.
