CEVA Logistics adds wind-powered shipping to low-carbon FORPLANET suite

CEVA Logistics has expanded its low-carbon transport portfolio with the introduction of wind-powered maritime services under its CEVA FORPLANET suite, offering more sustainable shipping options on key transatlantic routes.

The global third-party logistics provider said the new services are designed for customers seeking lower-emission solutions for shipments to and from North America, South America and the French West Indies. The move forms part of CEVA’s wider strategy to support the decarbonisation of supply chains.

CEVA will provide less-than-container load (LCL), full container load (FCL) and palletised cargo capacity on wind-powered vessels operating across several routes, including France to the United States, Canada, the French West Indies and Brazil. Services will be available for all types of goods, including temperature-controlled freight, hazardous materials and oversized cargo. Transit times are expected to range from 10 to 18 days, depending on destination.

To ensure a lower-carbon end-to-end journey, the company will combine wind-powered sea freight with multimodal pre- and post-carriage operations, including rail, barge and low-emission trucking solutions.

As the maritime sector faces mounting pressure to cut emissions, CEVA said wind propulsion technologies can reduce CO₂e emissions by up to 90% compared with conventional transport, depending on the technology used. The company added that new vessels designed around renewable wind energy can also serve secondary ports, helping to improve operational efficiency and reduce last-mile transport distances.

The wind-powered services form part of CEVA’s broader FORPLANET offering, which includes emissions measurement and optimisation tools, modal shift strategies, alternative fuel options across air, sea and road, as well as circular economy solutions such as waste management, reusable packaging and reverse logistics.

Benoît Tinetti, Global CSR Director at CEVA Logistics, said: “With environmental challenges greater than ever, it is our responsibility as a logistics provider to promote innovative solutions and integrate transport options into our offering that contribute to the decarbonisation of our customers’ supply chains. These new wind-powered maritime transport services are part of our commitment to net zero by 2050 and illustrate our ongoing commitment to ‘Acting for the Planet,’ one of the three pillars of our CSR strategy.”
