GLS Canada has solidified its position as a sustainability leader in the transport sector by becoming one of the nation’s first major carriers to introduce electric, heavy-duty yard trucks. The logistics giant has integrated Orange EV’s HUSK-e terminal trucks into its primary hubs in Montreal, Toronto, and Winnipeg, marking a pivotal move in its strategy to eliminate carbon emissions across its national network.
This initiative is a direct result of the collaboration between GLS Canada and Orange EV, aiming to prove that high-performance logistics and environmental responsibility can coexist. Mélanie Camara, Director of Environment and Sustainability at GLS Canada, noted that the investment aligns with the Science Based Targets initiative, reflecting a commitment to energy efficiency and the well-being of the communities they serve.
The environmental impact of the transition is substantial, with each HUSK-e truck expected to offset between 80 and 90 tonnes of $CO_2$ every year. Beyond the green credentials, these vehicles are engineered to withstand the rigours of the Canadian climate, maintaining a 97 percent uptime even during the harshest winter conditions.
Roberto Bragagnolo, Orange EV’s Country Director for Canada, highlighted that the deployment serves as a blueprint for other fleets, demonstrating that electric yard trucks can meet demanding operational schedules while advancing corporate sustainability targets. This partnership underscores a broader shift in the industry as manufacturers and providers work in tandem to pave the way for a cleaner transportation future.
