GSSB and SSBJ forge partnership at inaugural meeting in Tokyo

The Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB) and the Sustainability Standards Board of Japan (SSBJ) have taken a major step toward advancing corporate sustainability reporting with their inaugural bilateral meeting held in Tokyo.

At the meeting, both boards shared updates on their ongoing activities and deliberated on recent developments within the corporate reporting landscape. A key highlight of the gathering was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), solidifying their commitment to enhancing corporate reporting standards globally.

“We were delighted to be welcomed to Japan by the SSBJ. We look forward to continuing to explore together how reporting an organisation’s most significant impacts on the economy, environment and people, as enabled by the GRI Standards, can help companies in assessing their impacts, risks and opportunities, as well as providing more comprehensive sustainability information to a wide range of stakeholders,” said Carol Adams, Chair of the GSSB.

“On behalf of the SSBJ, it was our great pleasure to welcome the representatives of GRI’s GSSB to Tokyo. At this meeting, we were able to confirm our commitment towards better corporate reporting and, as a result, were able to sign a Memorandum of Understanding. We look forward to a continuing this productive relationship with the GRI in the coming years,” said Yasunobu Kawanishi, Chair of the SSBJ.
