Iberdrola has signed a collaboration agreement with Marinas de España, the Spanish Federation of Associations of Marinas and Tourism Ports, to implement electrification solutions aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of 180 marinas across Spain. The initiative will support the transition away from fossil fuels, enhancing the sustainability and competitiveness of marinas in Andalusia, Asturias, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Catalonia, Galicia, Murcia, and Valencia.
The partnership’s first phase involves an industry-wide analysis using Balantia’s Net Zero Emissions Manager, a platform developed following Iberdrola España’s full acquisition of Balantia. The tool calculates carbon footprints, identifies high-impact processes, and automatically generates a decarbonisation plan aligned with 2030 and 2050 climate targets. It also manages equipment inventories, asset profiles, and financial records to streamline sustainability planning.
Based on the findings, an electrification strategy will be developed to enhance port sustainability, incorporating electric vehicles and vessels, photovoltaic self-consumption, electrified heating systems, and energy tariffs with renewable guarantees of origin.
For emissions that cannot be eliminated, Iberdrola Group will offer high-quality carbon credits through its *Carbon2Nature* initiative. These credits support nature-based projects that absorb CO2, promote the circular economy, and drive sustainable development.
