Ingka Investments, the investment arm of Ingka Group – the largest IKEA retailer – has entered into a partnership with French offshore wind specialist Oxan Energy and Italian renewable developer Avapa Energy to co-develop two floating offshore wind projects off the coasts of Sicily and Sardinia. The projects, still in early development stages, have a combined potential capacity of 2.45 GW.
The collaboration will be led through NexVenti, a joint venture between Ingka Investments and Oxan Energy, working alongside local partner Avapa Energy. The two sites – Sicily South and Sardinia Northwest – were initially launched by AvenHexicon, a joint venture between Avapa and Swedish firm Hexicon. NexVenti and Avapa will now lead the further development of the projects, aiming to enter Italy’s upcoming offshore wind support auction with the intention of constructing and operating the wind farms.
The partnership brings together international experience and local expertise. Ingka Investments operates 45 wind farms across 16 countries and has committed €7.5 billion to renewable energy by 2030. Oxan Energy, with a strong background in floating wind technology, is already working with Ingka Investments on offshore wind tenders in France. Avapa Energy, active since 2019, has been structuring large-scale renewables projects across Italy and is already partnered with Ingka on solar PV developments in five Italian regions.
Frederik de Jong, Head of Renewable Energy at Ingka Investments, said, “The future of energy is renewable, and offshore wind holds enormous potential to further Europe’s decarbonisation. We look forward to advancing our partnership in Italy and making a real impact.”
Antoine Ecochard, Deputy General Manager at Oxan Energy, added, “Entering Italy’s offshore wind market is a major milestone. With strong partners, we’re ready to contribute to the clean energy transition.”
Alberto Dalla Rosa, Partner at Avapa Energy, commented, “We are excited to move these projects forward. Our development know-how will be greatly enhanced by the strength and experience of our new partners.”
The projects form part of a broader ambition to support Italy’s energy transition and meet national and EU climate goals through increased deployment of offshore wind capacity.
