ISO and GHG Protocol appoint joint working group for global product standard

GHG Protocol has announced the official selection of participants for the Joint Working Group (JWG), a pivotal step in its strategic alliance with ISO to harmonise product-level greenhouse gas accounting.

This initiative follows a rigorous selection process that drew more than 450 applications from 50 countries, reflecting a global demand for unified climate metrics. Tasked with updating and aligning the existing ISO 14067 and GHG Protocol Product Life Cycle standards, the group aims to create a science-aligned methodology requested by the COP30 Presidency.

The new framework is designed to meet the evolving requirements of regulators and investors while facilitating market mechanisms such as Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAMs).

By combining the expertise of over 410 organisations, the JWG will ensure the updated standard provides the granular data necessary for credible value-chain decarbonisation.

Amir Safaei, GHG Protocol’s Co-Convener, expressed gratitude for the immense volunteer interest and emphasised that the collaboration is essential for achieving international consistency. Stakeholders are invited to a technical webinar on 24 April to discuss the progress of this workstream and its role in enhancing global market transparency.
