Karbon-X Corp. has entered into a strategic agreement with Directions Group Inc. to develop a residential solar carbon project in Alberta aimed at generating offset credits under the province’s Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) regulation.

The initiative will allow homeowners who install solar photovoltaic systems to earn verified and tradeable carbon offset credits aligned with Alberta’s compliance protocols. These credits can be sold to large industrial emitters to help meet their obligations under the TIER framework—Alberta’s flagship carbon pricing system for industrial polluters.

The programme is intended to lower the cost of decarbonisation for emitters while encouraging greater adoption of distributed renewable energy across communities. Under the terms of the agreement, Directions Group will lead customer engagement efforts using its clean energy network, while Karbon-X will oversee technical project design and ensure regulatory compliance with Alberta’s offset protocols.

Alberta’s TIER system permits large emitters to use certified offsets instead of paying carbon levies, thereby reducing overall compliance costs. The new solar initiative seeks to integrate residential solar generation into this framework, allowing individuals to directly contribute to provincial emissions reduction efforts.

The partnership reflects a broader push to link community-level renewable energy adoption with regulated carbon markets, as Canadian jurisdictions continue to refine their climate strategies.

The project is expected to provide participants with access to a verified stream of environmental credits, positioning household infrastructure as a contributor to the province’s low-carbon transition.
