Lenovo launches sustainability-focused TruScale Device-as-a-Service offering

Lenovo has unveiled TruScale Device as a Service (DaaS) for Sustainability, a modular IT solution designed to help enterprises reduce their environmental impact while improving operational efficiency. The offering combines hardware, services, and financing into a scalable, subscription-based model aimed at supporting sustainable IT strategies and accelerating the shift to a circular economy.

The service builds on Lenovo’s existing TruScale DaaS platform—already used to manage millions of devices globally—and integrates new tools to reduce carbon footprints, extend device life, and streamline asset recovery. Lenovo reports that, in some deployments, the solution has led to up to 35% savings in IT device costs, without the need for upfront capital investment.

“Sustainability is becoming a key priority in enterprise IT decision-making,” said John Stamer, Vice President and General Manager of Global Product Services at Lenovo. “TruScale DaaS for Sustainability is about delivering intelligent, circular, and accountable IT—from day one.”

Key features include:

  • Carbon impact portal: Provides real-time emissions data for ESG reporting.
  • Certified refurbished devices: Reduce refresh costs and lower embodied carbon.
  • CO₂ offset services: Integrated emissions compensation across the device lifecycle.
  • Asset recovery services: Secure decommissioning and value recovery from retired equipment.

The launch follows recent industry research showing that 62% of organisations invest in sustainability for cost-saving benefits, highlighting the dual financial and environmental value of the model. According to McKinsey, strategies like extending device lifespans and reducing the number of devices per user can cut up to 60% of end-user device emissions.

Real-world applications of the platform include Coventry University Group, which replaced its outdated IT estate using Lenovo TruScale and offset 223 tonnes of CO₂. The shift also resulted in 40 hours of weekly IT labour savings and improved service delivery.

“Sustainable IT should drive value, not complexity,” added Rakshit Ghura, Vice President and General Manager, Digital Workplace Solutions at Lenovo. “With data-driven tools and a circular approach, our solution helps CIOs align business performance with sustainability goals.”

The service spans the full device lifecycle—from advising and implementation to support, management, and eventual retirement or refurbishment. AI-powered tools such as the Lenovo Intelligent Sustainability Solutions Advisor (LISSA) and Care of One™ further guide decision-making and enhance user experience.
