Meta expands clean energy portfolio with 791MW deal to power AI data centres

Meta Platforms has signed four new agreements with renewable energy developer Invenergy to procure an additional 791 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind power. The move supports Meta’s ongoing efforts to meet the rising energy demands of its artificial intelligence-driven data centres through clean energy sources.

The latest deal builds on a prior collaboration between the two companies. In 2023, Meta signed contracts with the Chicago-based developer for 760 MW of solar capacity. With the new agreements, their total partnership now stands at 1,800 MW.

The energy will be generated from Invenergy’s solar and wind projects in Ohio, Arkansas, and Texas, and delivered to the local power grid. Meta will retain the clean energy credits associated with the new capacity.

Meta has also pursued other low-carbon energy sources, including large-scale solar projects, geothermal partnerships, and ongoing discussions with nuclear energy developers. Financial terms of the latest deals were not disclosed.
