New appointments announced for GRI’s independent standards board

The Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB), the independent body responsible for setting the GRI Standards, has announced a significant restructuring of its leadership to enhance global representation and multi-stakeholder collaboration. The Supervisory Board of GRI confirmed the inclusion of a second Vice-Chair and the appointment of a new member to the board.

The structural revision follows the recent appointment of Susanne Stormer as Chair, whose term officially commenced on 1 April 2026. Under the new arrangement, Jeff Robertson, Director of Environment & Sustainability at Bimbo Canada, has been reappointed as Vice-Chair. He is joined by Tomoo Machiba, Managing Director of Japan’s Zeroboard Research Institute, who steps into the newly created second Vice-Chair role.

Additionally, Isidora Diaz Heredia, Chief Sustainability and HSE Officer at Parques Reunidos Group, joins the GSSB as a new member. She fills the vacancy left by Giulia Genuardi, who departed the board after five years of service.

Chair Susanne Stormer noted that the new appointments would be vital in advancing the credibility and adoption of GRI Standards. New Vice-Chair Tomoo Machiba emphasised the board’s commitment to evolving the standards for the digital and AI-driven era, stating, “The GSSB is committed to advancing the Standards by crystallizing the interaction between impacts, risks and opportunities, while facilitating their use within global financial disclosure system.”

The GSSB continues to focus on strengthening the interoperability of its standards within the global financial disclosure landscape to ensure organisations deliver high-quality, comparable data.
