Siemens and Airbus partner to decarbonise major industrial sites in the US and UK

Siemens and Airbus have deepened their long-standing partnership with a new contract aimed at decarbonising Airbus’ major industrial sites in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Under the framework agreement, Siemens will deploy its scalable decarbonisation technologies to help Airbus abate 80 kilotonnes of CO₂ equivalent (CO₂e) annually by 2030. The project will be led by Siemens’ Buildings business, with Capgemini providing consulting and digital support to enhance governance, project management, and energy monitoring systems.

Siemens will assess and develop decarbonisation masterplans for the selected sites, incorporating solutions such as heat pump-based heating systems, energy efficiency upgrades, smart metering, and on-site renewable energy integration. Digital Energy System Twins will simulate and optimise decarbonisation pathways. These efforts support Airbus’ broader target to cut energy consumption by 20% and reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 85% by 2030, compared with 2015 levels.

Susanne Seitz, CEO of Buildings at Siemens Smart Infrastructure, said: “Our collaboration with Airbus is built on years of mutual trust and shared ambition. This partnership demonstrates Siemens’ ability to deliver scalable technologies that reduce carbon footprints while enhancing operational resilience and competitiveness.”

Florent Massou dit Labaquere, EVP Operations at Airbus Commercial Aircraft, added: “We’re proud to take this important step toward making our operations more energy-efficient and future-ready. Working with trusted partners like Siemens ensures we stay on course to meet our energy and emission reduction goals.”

The initial phase, launched in summer 2025, involves developing decarbonisation roadmaps and engineering studies, with infrastructure rollout expected to begin in 2026. Siemens may also operate and maintain the new systems to ensure long-term efficiency.

Siemens and Airbus share a partnership spanning over 50 years, covering areas such as automation, industrial software, and building technology. This latest agreement reinforces their joint commitment to advancing sustainable industrial transformation and achieving Airbus’ environmental targets.
