Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (Acra) has launched a new guidebook to help training providers develop programmes aligned with the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) framework, amid growing demand for professionals skilled in sustainability reporting.
Unveiled on Monday (May 19), the Sustainability Reporting Body of Knowledge (SR BOK) outlines essential knowledge areas and technical competencies for sustainability and climate-related disclosures. It is intended to serve as a reference for designing courses that align with ISSB standards.
The move follows the Singapore Exchange Regulation’s decision in September 2023 to mandate climate-related disclosures for listed companies, starting from the current financial year.
“With an increasing number of companies progressively disclosing climate-related information to meet stakeholder expectations, Singapore will need to build a talent pipeline to meet the growing demand for professionals who can take on sustainability reporting-related roles,” Acra said in a statement.
The guidebook emphasises competencies such as greenhouse gas accounting and climate disclosure. While it provides a foundational structure, Acra noted that training providers retain flexibility to adapt the material and incorporate additional topics to suit specific learning needs.
The guide also includes case studies to illustrate practical applications of key concepts. Acra said it is working with SkillsFuture Singapore to provide funding support for programmes developed in line with the guide.
