Global environmental consultancy SLR has announced the acquisition of Planetrics, an industry-leading climate modelling firm, from McKinsey & Company. Planetrics provides advanced proprietary software that enables financial institutions and corporates to quantify physical and transition climate risks across diverse assets and regions.
By integrating Planetrics’ analytics with SLR’s engineering and advisory expertise, the firm aims to provide clients with a comprehensive view of financially material climate impacts. Despite the change in ownership, McKinsey, Planetrics, and SLR will continue to collaborate to serve global clients on sustainability challenges.
Bradley Andrews, SLR CEO, said, “Planetrics joining SLR marks a significant step change in the evolution of our digital services. This acquisition accelerates our ambition to deliver smarter, more integrated solutions across every sector we serve. I look forward to building our alliance with McKinsey and enabling clients to navigate the transition to a more resilient, sustainable future.”
Thomas Bremner Bligaard, McKinsey Partner and Planetrics lead, added, “We are proud of what we have built at Planetrics and the impact we’ve delivered for clients during our time with McKinsey. Our mission to help clients navigate climate risks and opportunities continues, and we are excited to expand our reach and capabilities with SLR.”
Sanjay Kalavar and Hemant Ahlawat, co-leaders of McKinsey Sustainability, noted, “Since 2021, Planetrics and McKinsey colleagues have worked together to help our clients pursue their net-zero commitments and further an inclusive, sustainable transition. This is mission-critical work at McKinsey, and we look forward to our continued collaboration with Planetrics and SLR.”
