S&P Global names Lauren Smart as Head of Sustainable1 business unit

S&P Global has announced the appointment of Lauren Smart as the new Head of Sustainable1, the company’s dedicated sustainability-focused business unit.

Lauren joined the core leadership team of Sustainable1 in 2020 as the Chief Commercial and Market Engagement Officer. Prior to her tenure at S&P Global, she served on the board and senior management team of Trucost, an environmental economics pioneer, where she played a key role in scaling the business to a market-leading position. In 2016, she was part of the board team that facilitated Trucost’s acquisition by S&P Dow Jones Indices.

Lauren holds a BA and MA in Archaeology & Anthropology from Cambridge University and an MSc in Anthropology & International Development from the London School of Economics.

She said in a LinkedIn post, “As the sustainability market grows and evolves, so does the sophistication of our clients’ needs. Alongside our longstanding work on climate, nature, & sustainability, the newly integrated business will support clients end to end throughout their sustainability journey; from risk management and reporting to industrial decarbonisation and identifying the opportunities to finance a more sustainable future. This organisation brings powerful original content on clean energy technology, carbon markets, transition commodities, sustainable agriculture, hydrogen, biofuels, energy outlooks & so much more.”

She added, “As I start this next stage in my career journey, I can’t wait to support clients in the next stage of their sustainability journeys. I’m also super excited to collaborate with the amazing team at S&P Global Commodity Insights and drive impactful changes that will help the organisation reach new heights.”
