TotalEnergies and Colas have renewed their three-year collaboration aimed at advancing the decarbonisation of the construction sector in France and internationally. The partnership supports both companies’ strategies to reduce emissions across their operations and those of their clients.
The renewed partnership will focus on three main areas:
- Expanding the use of multi-energy solutions, including biofuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and battery-powered electricity to replace diesel generators on construction sites.
- Developing electric charging infrastructure, powered by renewable electricity, for Colas’s fleet of electric vehicles and machinery.
- Installing solar power plants on Colas-owned land to generate renewable electricity and promote energy self-sufficiency.
These initiatives align with Colas Group’s low-carbon and biodiversity roadmap, which targets a 46.5% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) by 2030. TotalEnergies, through its multi-energy strategy, aims to cut the carbon intensity of its sold energy products by 25% by 2030 compared to 2015 levels.
During the initial phase of the collaboration, the two companies tested low-carbon solutions on Colas construction sites, including a major refurbishment project in France. TotalEnergies supplied HVO100—a 100% renewable biofuel—to power more than 220 machines and heavy vehicles on site, achieving CO₂ emission reductions of between 60% and 90% compared with conventional fuels.
Additionally, electric batteries with a total capacity of 2.4 MWh were deployed to replace generators, providing stable electricity to site facilities. The project reduced emissions by nearly 4,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ and demonstrated the viability of large-scale, multi-energy solutions for remote construction sites.
Pierre Vanstoflegatte, CEO of the Colas Group, said: “The renewal of our partnership with TotalEnergies illustrates our determination to speed up the decarbonisation of our business. Innovative multi-energy solutions and the development of our land resources will consolidate the position of the Colas Group as a low-carbon worksite operator serving its customers.”
Bernard Pinatel, Downstream Operations, Marketing and Services Director at TotalEnergies, added: “We are looking forward to continuing this partnership with Colas. Our multi-energy offers provide practical and innovative low-carbon solutions to support our customers in decarbonising their activities.”
