TotalEnergies signs 15-year deal to supply Google with Ohio solar power

TotalEnergies has signed a 15-year power purchase agreement to deliver 1.5 terawatt hours of renewable electricity to Google from its Montpelier solar farm in Ohio, the French energy major announced on Wednesday.

The nearly completed facility is connected to PJM — the largest power grid in the United States — and will supply clean energy to support Google’s data centre operations in the state.

“This agreement illustrates TotalEnergies’ ability to meet the growing energy demands of major tech companies by leveraging its integrated portfolio of renewable and flexible assets,” said Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables and Power at TotalEnergies.

The partnership comes as TotalEnergies accelerates its shift towards electricity to build a more stable revenue base and reduce exposure to volatile oil and gas cycles, CEO Patrick Pouyanné said earlier this month at the ADIPEC conference.

The company is currently rolling out a 10-gigawatt clean energy pipeline across the United States, including onshore solar, wind and battery storage projects.
