TotalEnergies to supply Airbus with 3.3 TWh of clean power in Germany and UK

TotalEnergies and Airbus have signed two long-term clean firm power agreements to supply 3.3 terawatt-hours (TWh) of renewable electricity to Airbus’s major industrial sites in Germany and the United Kingdom.

Under the contracts, electricity supplied into the next decade will have a baseload profile and will be generated from new renewable assets with a combined capacity of 200 megawatts (MW). The supply is expected to cover around half of the electricity demand of the affected Airbus sites from 2027 onwards.

Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, said the agreements build on the companies’ existing collaboration in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). He added that Germany and the UK are key markets where TotalEnergies is rapidly expanding its production base and electricity sales.

“These new contracts illustrate TotalEnergies’ ability to deliver turnkey clean firm power solutions across multiple geographies to support industrial customers in their energy transition,” Michel said, noting that the agreements rely on an integrated power portfolio combining renewable generation with flexible assets.

Florent Massou dit Labaquère, Executive Vice President of Operations for Airbus’s Commercial Aircraft business, said the power purchase agreements demonstrate Airbus’s long-term commitment to decarbonising its operations.

“As Airbus continues to make steady progress towards our energy efficiency and emissions reduction targets, these PPAs will help us secure reliable low-carbon energy and increase the share of renewable electricity across our sites,” he said. He added that the agreements complement the companies’ cooperation on SAF and form part of Airbus’s broader strategy to build operational resilience while reducing emissions.
