Trace One and Citeo partner to streamline packaging sustainability for brands

Software-as-a-service provider Trace One has partnered with Citeo, an eco-organisation focused on reducing household packaging waste, to help grocery retailers and brands meet sustainability and regulatory requirements more efficiently.

The collaboration integrates Trace One’s product life cycle management (PLM) platform with Citeo’s recyclability calculation expertise, offering an automated approach to assessing and improving packaging sustainability. This marks a significant shift from traditional, manual recyclability assessments, which have often been time-consuming and complex.

As regulations tighten, including the Environmental Qualities and Characteristics decree and forthcoming European packaging waste regulations, brands are under increasing pressure to comply. By inputting packaging data into Trace One’s PLM system, brands receive real-time recyclability scores via Citeo’s analysis—without storing customer data externally. The results feed directly into Trace One’s analytics tool, providing brands with actionable insights to enhance their packaging sustainability.

Antoine Daviet, Chief Product Officer at Trace One, said, “This partnership with Citeo transforms how retailers approach recyclability, allowing them to meet sustainability goals faster and more effectively.”

The solution is already being implemented with seven leading French brands, with a phased rollout to ensure a smooth transition.

Valentin Fournel, Head of Eco-Design and Reuse at Citeo, added, “This strategic collaboration accelerates the assessment of packaging recyclability, helping companies meet regulatory targets and reduce environmental impact more efficiently.”
