UL Solutions launches new tools for ESG, PFAS and wind energy planning

UL Solutions Inc. has announced a series of updates to its ULTRUS software platform, aimed at enhancing regulatory compliance, sustainability reporting, and risk management for businesses worldwide.

The latest releases address a range of emerging challenges, including tracking per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), managing Scope 3 emissions, and improving planning processes for wind energy projects. The upgrades are part of UL Solutions’ broader strategy to support organisations in navigating complex global regulations and advancing their sustainability efforts.

A notable update includes enhancements to WERCSmart®, a tool widely used by retailers to manage the safe handling and compliance of consumer products. The latest version helps identify PFAS—commonly referred to as “forever chemicals”—in retail products and enables improved documentation collection from manufacturers.

Another key release is the Purchased Goods and Services module within the UL 360 ESG and Sustainability platform. This tool supports companies in tracking and reporting Scope 3, Category 1 emissions, which cover emissions from goods and services purchased from suppliers. The module is designed to simplify data collection and improve target setting and reporting efficiency, particularly for organisations managing large, fragmented datasets.

In line with new global disclosure requirements, UL Solutions also expanded the capabilities of its ESG Disclosures module to support International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) reporting. This feature enables organisations to consolidate and audit sustainability data to meet emerging legislative frameworks in jurisdictions such as Australia, the U.K., Japan, and China.

For the renewable energy sector, the Windnavigator Resource Data and Maps tool now includes artificial intelligence (AI) functionality to assist wind developers in identifying suitable sites and making early-stage planning decisions using enhanced mapping and resource data.

Additionally, UL Solutions introduced AI-powered features to its LearnShare™ platform, allowing for the rapid generation of learning content, quizzes, and transcripts through large language models. This tool is designed to support HR and environmental, health and safety (EHS) professionals in delivering timely training programmes.
