The University of Birmingham has named Zoe Hurley as its new Head of Sustainability. Hurley, a dedicated advocate for environmental and social progress, brings a wealth of experience, including her role as Head of Sustainability at HM Courts & Tribunals Service. She is also a member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), which represents the highest standard for sustainability professionals.
Commenting on her new role at the University, Hurley said, “I am delighted to have joined the University of Birmingham. As a sustainability professional who is experienced in leading change, I look forward to working with colleagues and students across the University to deliver our sustainability priorities and bring to life what it means to be a green university.”
Professor David Hannah, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sustainability) said, “We are committed to addressing global sustainability challenges through our research, education and operations as a responsible organisation. The appointment of Zoe is an important step in supporting a leading on our sustainability ambitions; we look forward to continuing the impactful work with her expertise added to our team.”
The University of Birmingham, ranked 35th in the QS World Sustainability Rankings, aims to positively impact society and the environment, contributing significantly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the UK’s Net Zero by 2050 target.
