Verra and Hedera Foundation launch digital collaboration to transform carbon markets

Verra has announced a long-term collaboration with the Hedera Foundation to accelerate the digital transformation of carbon markets, aiming to enhance transparency, auditability, and the integrity of monitoring and verification systems. This makes Verra the first global carbon market standards body to integrate with the Hedera Guardian, an open-source platform designed to support digital environmental solutions.

The integration links Hedera Guardian directly with the Verra Project Hub—Verra’s digital platform for project development and registration. The partnership will facilitate automated workflows, improve access to digitalised methodologies, and streamline the issuance of carbon credits. According to Verra, the digital-first approach is expected to significantly reduce project timelines and improve stakeholder experience through enhanced data accessibility and faster review processes.

“This collaboration represents a significant advancement in Verra’s digitalisation strategy,” said Verra CEO Mandy Rambharos. “Integrating Hedera Guardian with our Project Hub is a key step towards scalable, high-integrity climate action, particularly as we support nature-based solutions such as the ALLCOT ABC Mangrove Restoration Project in Senegal.”

The ALLCOT project, which is seeking registration under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and Climate, Community & Biodiversity Standards (CCBS), is the first to benefit from the integration. Using a digitalised version of the VM0033 Methodology for Tidal Wetland and Seagrass Restoration, the project was able to automate the submission of its project design documentation, signalling a shift towards more efficient digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (dMRV) processes.

The initiative will also encourage contributions from the open-source community, with financial incentives of up to $5,000 per methodology offered under the DLT Earth Bounty Programme. A five-year capital investment from the Hedera Foundation will support the digitalisation of 20 additional methodologies in 2025, expanding the Guardian’s digital methodology library and furthering Verra’s efforts to digitise the full project lifecycle.

Wes Geisenberger, Vice President of Sustainability and ESG at the Hedera Foundation, highlighted Verra’s leadership in digital innovation. “Verra is setting a new standard for integrity in carbon markets by combining open-source collaboration with digital measurement and verification tools,” he said.

Alexis Leroy, CEO of ALLCOT, added that the partnership allows project stakeholders to access more transparent and interoperable data. “This marks the beginning of a new era where on-the-ground efforts can be digitally translated into trust, speed, and impact at scale.”

The collaboration is expected to play a key role in supporting the global carbon market’s transition to more trustworthy and accessible digital systems.
