Vietnam calls ADB to boost funding for digital and green initiatives

Vietnam Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has urged the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to expand concessional funding for Vietnam, particularly for projects focused on digital transformation, green energy, and cloud computing. The appeal was made during a meeting with ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa at the 8th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit in Kunming, China.

Prime Minister Chính expressed gratitude for ADB’s ongoing financial support, which has significantly contributed to the country’s socio-economic progress and poverty alleviation over the last 30 years. He highlighted the importance of this partnership and urged ADB to prioritise financing for large-scale projects in Vietnam’s emerging sectors, including offshore wind power and a high-speed railway.

In response, ADB President Asakawa conveyed his condolences for the damage caused by Typhoon Yagi and commended Vietnam’s swift recovery efforts. He reaffirmed ADB’s commitment to assisting Vietnam in achieving its development targets, including the goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
