Watershed launches first-ever carbon removal RFP

Watershed has announced the launch of its first Request for Proposals (RFP) for carbon removal suppliers, aiming to integrate a broader range of high-quality solutions into its decarbonisation ecosystem. The company is seeking 1 megatonne of carbon removal credits for its growing network of over 500 global businesses, which are committed to impactful sustainability initiatives.

This initiative is the first in the market to procure both nature-based and engineered carbon removals together, reflecting the diverse needs of Watershed’s customer base. Companies working with Watershed already have access to carefully vetted carbon removal projects, clean power, and sustainable aviation fuel solutions. The RFP aims to expand these options by bringing in new partners to diversify and strengthen the available portfolio.

Successful suppliers selected through Watershed’s Request for Proposals (RFP) will gain access to a streamlined sales and contracting process, simplifying transactions by connecting them to an aggregated buyer group. This approach enhances efficiency and reduces the complexity of traditional procurement.

Additionally, suppliers will have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with Watershed customers, a diverse network of over 500 companies across various industries, sizes, and geographical markets. This collaboration opens doors to sustained business partnerships and increased market visibility.

Selected suppliers will also receive priority consideration for future purchase cycles, including the potential for multi-year agreements. This provides suppliers with a stable and predictable demand pipeline, ensuring continuity and growth in the evolving carbon removal sector.

Companies leveraging Watershed’s platform to develop their carbon removal portfolio will benefit from collective purchasing power, reducing costs and eliminating the complexity of contract negotiations. By aggregating demand, Watershed enables businesses of all sizes to access cost-effective and scalable carbon removal solutions.

Customers will also gain access to high-quality carbon removal projects, typically available only to the largest corporate buyers. This approach ensures smaller businesses can participate in climate-critical initiatives that would otherwise be out of reach.

In an increasingly constrained market, where demand for carbon removal solutions outweighs supply, Watershed customers will be able to secure long-term access to premium carbon removal projects. This guarantees continuity in meeting sustainability targets and enhances their commitment to net-zero strategies.

By integrating carbon removal solutions into their sustainability strategy, businesses will make measurable progress towards climate goals, building high-impact, de-risked investment portfolios that align with global sustainability standards.

Applications for the RFP are open until 31 March, and eligible carbon removal suppliers are encouraged to apply. Further details, including supplier FAQs and application criteria, are available through Watershed’s official channels.
