Yvo de Boer appointed Chair of the Carbon Trust

The Carbon Trust has appointed Yvo de Boer as its new Chair. De Boer brings decades of experience in climate policy, sustainable development and international climate diplomacy, spanning senior roles across government, multilateral institutions and the private sector. He most recently served as President and Board Chair of the Gold Standard Foundation, where he oversaw efforts to promote high-integrity climate action aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. He has also acted as a strategic adviser to the International Solar Alliance and supported international development agencies on strategy and organisational readiness.

Earlier in his career, de Boer was Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, where he played a central role in elevating climate change on the global political agenda and advancing international climate finance frameworks.

His leadership experience also includes serving as Director General of the Global Green Growth Institute, as well as leading KPMG’s global Climate Change & Sustainability Services practice, advising organisations on integrating environmental and social considerations into strategic and financial decision-making.

De Boer previously held senior positions within the Dutch Environment Ministry and represented both the Netherlands and the European Union in international climate negotiations. He has also contributed to bodies including the OECD Environmental Policy Committee, the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, and the World Economic Forum’s Agenda Council on Climate.

Commenting on his appointment, de Boer said he was honoured to take on the role and highlighted the importance of positioning climate action to meet current economic and societal realities, while delivering practical solutions through strong partnerships.
