Amazon has selected 11 start-ups and scale-ups to join the ClimateTech cohort of its Sustainability Accelerator, a four-week programme aimed at advancing breakthrough environmental technologies.
Chosen from more than 550 applicants, the companies focus on three key challenges: energy efficiency, waste reduction and water management. Innovations include ultra-thin flexible solar panels, an air conditioner that cuts energy use by up to 90%, and technology that digests food waste into biogas and hydrogen.
The selected companies include Mhor Energy, Cartesian, Over Easy Solar, Active Surfaces, Omniflow, Blue Frontier, Shayp, Solaq, NANDO, Greyparrot, and Vuala.
Among the cohort is Norwegian firm Cartesian, which has developed a thermal battery to transform how buildings store and use energy. “Being chosen is a powerful validation of our solution and that our mission matters,” said Cartesian CTO Alexis Sevault.
The Accelerator combines workshops, mentoring and leadership panels, and some participants will have the chance to pilot their solutions within Amazon’s European operations. Last year Amazon invested €750,000 across five pilot projects, with the potential for successful technologies to be adopted at scale.
“This cohort combines technological innovation with practical applicability,” said Olivier Pellegrini, Amazon’s European Director of Sustainability & Packaging Operations. “These founders are developing technologies that could be transformative within our operations and beyond.”
Launched in 2022, the Accelerator initially focused on sustainable consumer products before expanding into climate tech. Including the latest intake, it has now supported more than 70 companies across six cohorts. The programme is run in partnership with Founders Intelligence, part of Accenture.
