Global private equity firm Ara Partners has announced the final close of Ara Energy Fund I, securing $2.5 billion in capital commitments for its energy and industrial transition strategy.
The overall capital raise comprises $1.8 billion in direct fund commitments—reaching the vehicle’s hard cap—alongside more than $700 million in dedicated co-investment capital.
Initially launched in the second quarter of 2025, the fund held a first close in December 2025 before achieving its final close 10 months later. The fundraise attracted backing from existing Ara LPs alongside new institutional investors across North America and Europe, including sovereign wealth funds, public pension funds, insurance carriers, endowments, and foundations.
Formed in partnership with HF Capital, the strategy focuses on acquiring, optimizing, and decarbonizing energy infrastructure across traditional energy supply chains. Led by Partner Shameek Konar alongside Partner James Chiu, Managing Director David Sims, and Principal Matthew Dunn, the management team has already deployed capital into three seed asset classes:
- Power generation: Approximately 3.0 gigawatts (GW) of thermal power capacity spanning the NYISO, ISO-NE, and PJM regional transmission markets in the US.
- Renewable fuels: Domestic US ethanol production facilities with a combined capacity of approximately 400 million gallons annually.
- Delivery and distribution: JET, a European retail fuel network comprising roughly 970 stations across Germany and Austria, held in partnership with Ara Infrastructure.
Shameek Konar, Partner and Head of Ara Energy, stated that expanding global power demand requires optimized infrastructure to maintain system reliability. He added that the capital will be used to expand grid capacity, enhance regional energy security, and extend the operational life of critical energy assets during the transition.
Threadmark served as global placement agent, while Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP acted as legal counsel for the fund formation.
