Global carbon ratings agency BeZero Carbon has completed the acquisition of Cedar, an automation platform specialising in complex sustainability workflows. Under the terms of the agreement, Cedar’s founding team will join the agency to accelerate the technical capabilities of BeZero’s existing market infrastructure.
Cedar has established a strong industry reputation for software that converts fragmented, unstructured data into auditable sustainability insights. BeZero will integrate these automated capabilities into its core subscriber platform, BeZero Carbon Markets, which currently provides users with ratings analysis, pre-rating scorecards, geospatial intelligence, and an AI assistant.
The transaction is designed to scale BeZero’s self-service data and analytical offerings, allowing subscribers to build and execute more sophisticated risk-assessment and due-diligence workflows on their own terms.
The acquisition comes during a pivotal period for BeZero Carbon as the voluntary carbon market moves toward institutional maturity. The company is currently on track to become formalised under the European Union’s upcoming ESG regulations later this year, amid rising corporate demand for independent, expert-led carbon credit risk ratings.
BeZero confirmed that its core ratings business will remain strictly expert-led, with its team of scientific analysts continuing to serve as the baseline for its project risk assessments.
Tommy Ricketts, Chief Executive and Co-founder of BeZero Carbon, stated that the integration of Cedar’s market-leading technology will enhance the BeZero Carbon Markets Platform, offering customers better tools to interrogate data and gain greater confidence when making investment decisions.
Farouq Ghandour, Chief Executive and Co-founder of Cedar, added that while credible investment is core to fighting climate change, capital only flows where carbon claims can be trusted. He noted that Cedar is joining BeZero to make its scientific intelligence more accessible and to expand the due-diligence tools required for the broader market to act with confidence.
As part of the integration, Cedar co-founders Farouq Ghandour, Piotr Gacek, and Raphael Sberro will officially join the BeZero team to oversee the platform’s next phase of growth.
