Clearway Energy Group has signed three new long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Google, covering a combined 1.17 GW of carbon-free energy projects across Missouri, Texas and West Virginia.
Under the agreements, Clearway Energy Group will supply carbon-free electricity to regional power grids supporting Google’s data centres within the SPP, ERCOT and PJM markets for periods of up to 20 years. The three projects represent more than $2.4 billion in investment in energy infrastructure.
Construction on projects totalling more than 1 GW is set to begin this year, with the first facilities expected to become operational in 2027 and 2028. The latest agreements build on an existing 71.5 MW PPA already operating in West Virginia, bringing the total contracted capacity between the two companies to 1.24 GW.
Valerie Wooley, Senior Vice President of Origination at Clearway, said the projects would deliver near-term energy and capacity to support data centre demand in regions experiencing rapid load growth, adding that they form part of the company’s accelerated digital infrastructure development programme.
Amanda Peterson Corio, Google’s Global Head of Data Centre Energy, said expanding access to reliable and clean energy is critical to supporting digital infrastructure and the communities that depend on it.
According to Clearway, the projects are expected to generate benefits for local communities, including increased tax revenues for public services, hundreds of construction jobs and ongoing community initiatives such as the company’s Adopt-a-School programme.
