Envision Energy secures 128MW turbine deal for Vietnam nearshore wind projects

Envision Energy has signed a turbine supply contract with Vietnam’s REE Group for a combined 128MW of nearshore wind projects in Vinh Long Province.

The contract covers two projects — V1-3 Phase II (48MW) and V1-5 & V1-6 Phase II (80MW) — which will deploy 16 EN-226/8.XMW offshore wind turbines. Once operational, the projects will feature the largest single-turbine capacity deployed in nearshore wind developments in Vietnam and Southeast Asia, supporting Vietnam’s net-zero ambitions.

Both projects will begin construction simultaneously in areas with average wind speeds exceeding 7 metres per second. They are among the first projects approved under Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII and represent the country’s first adoption of large-rotor, high-capacity offshore wind turbines. Full grid connection is expected by October 2026.

Envision Energy said it will apply offshore wind standards tailored to Vietnam’s high-humidity and high salt-spray conditions to ensure turbine performance, reliability, environmental, health and safety compliance, and localisation requirements. The company is also working with local tower suppliers and project owners to address challenges related to large offshore turbine tower manufacturing and domestic production capacity.

Launched in 2022, Envision’s EN-226/8.XMW turbine platform has secured more than 2.5GW of orders globally and has been deployed at scale in low-wind-speed offshore projects in China, where it has operated stably for more than three years.

“This collaboration marks the first nearshore offshore wind project cluster delivered under Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII and opens a new chapter for offshore wind development in Southeast Asia,” said Edward Hou, Senior Vice President and President of Asia-Pacific at Envision Energy. He added that the company aims to deliver the projects as a regional benchmark while supporting REE Group’s energy transition.

REE Renewable General Manager Mr Ashok said the group selected Envision Energy based on its technological leadership, the maturity of the EN-226/8.XMW platform and its experience in gigawatt-scale grid-connected operations, adding that the projects are expected to set a benchmark for offshore wind development in Vietnam and the wider region.
