ERM, Secaro and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca have launched the Clean Heat Program aimed at supporting companies in reducing emissions from industrial heat across global supply chains.
Industrial process heat remains one of the major challenges in decarbonising industry, accounting for around 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions. While many companies have set climate targets, efforts to reduce emissions from heat systems often face challenges including limited data, technical complexity and financing constraints.
The programme combines Secaro’s supply chain intelligence platform with ERM’s technical and advisory expertise. Secaro will provide environmental supply chain data, analytics and tools to identify potential decarbonisation options, drawing on its network of more than 8,000 buyers, suppliers and solution providers. ERM will use this information to carry out heat assessments and support companies and their suppliers in identifying solutions, evaluating investment pathways and implementing site-level projects.
Jon Hughes, Partner at ERM, said the initiative aims to help move heat decarbonisation projects beyond early assessments towards implementation.
Emily Prior, Chief Growth Officer at Secaro, said reducing emissions from heat systems is becoming increasingly important for companies facing regulatory scrutiny, energy price volatility and pressure from investors and customers.
AstraZeneca has joined the programme as a founding partner and will participate in programme development and knowledge sharing with industry peers and suppliers.
Rob Williams, Senior Director of Sustainable Procurement at AstraZeneca, said collaboration with suppliers and companies from other sectors will help plan and finance projects focused on reducing emissions from industrial heat within supply chains.
The programme will also work alongside existing initiatives such as the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), the Pharmaceutical Supply Chain Initiative (PSCI) and the Scope 3 Peer Group, which focus on supplier engagement and supply chain decarbonisation.
