The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) has confirmed the appointment of Susanne Stormer as Chair of the Global Sustainability Standards Board (GSSB), the governance body responsible for setting the GRI Standards.
Stormer is currently Leader in Residence at Copenhagen Business School and brings extensive experience across corporate sustainability, reporting and standard-setting. She was most recently a Partner at PwC Denmark, where she provided sustainability advisory and assurance services. Prior to this, she spent 13 years as Vice President of Corporate Sustainability at Novo Nordisk, leading the integration of sustainability reporting into the company’s Annual Report.
Stormer has previously served on the EFRAG Project Task Force that developed the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), as a member of the SASB Standards Board, and as a founding member of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC).
Welcoming the appointment, Jane Diplock, Chair of GRI’s Supervisory Board, said Stormer’s career in corporate sustainability spans almost as long as GRI’s own history, adding that her experience as a reporting practitioner, adviser and standard-setter positions her to strengthen the role of GRI Standards within the global sustainability reporting system.
Stormer said she was looking forward to joining the GSSB at a critical moment for sustainability reporting, highlighting the need for clarity on materiality and for consistent, comparable data to support accountability for organisations’ environmental, social and economic impacts. She said global standards are essential to ensure credible, timely and decision-useful reporting that enables organisations and stakeholders to act on impacts and direct investment towards more sustainable business practices.
The GSSB comprises 15 voluntary members, including the Chair. Alongside Stormer’s appointment, GRI has reappointed four members for a second term: Jeff Robertson, Deborah Ng, Galya Tsonkova, and Chulendra de Silva.
In addition to her current role, Stormer serves as Vice Chair of the International Corporate Governance Network, is a member of the OECD Corporate Governance Committee, and sits on the boards of Shift and the Access to Nutrition Foundation. She is also a visiting professor at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley.
