Harbinger secures $160m in Series C funding as FedEx orders 53 electric trucks

FedEx placed an initial order for 53 Harbinger electric vehicles.

Medium-duty electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturer Harbinger has raised $160 million in a Series C funding round co-led by FedEx, Capricorn’s Technology Impact Fund, and THOR Industries. The round brings Harbinger’s total funding to $358 million to date. Several existing investors, including Ridgeline, Tiger Global, Leitmotif, Maniv Mobility and others, also participated.

As part of the deal, FedEx has placed an initial order for 53 Harbinger electric trucks, comprising Class 5 and Class 6 chassis expected to be delivered by the end of 2025. The units will be prepared for upfitting to support FedEx’s pickup and delivery operations.

The order comes as FedEx continues its broader fleet transition and evaluates larger-capacity electric vehicles suitable for its network needs.

Harbinger produces its own electric stripped chassis, integrating major vehicle systems in-house. According to the company, this approach allows it to reduce manufacturing costs while developing platforms designed specifically for electric drivetrains rather than retrofitting diesel or petrol designs.

The company’s trucks include driver-assistance features such as backup cameras, virtual bumpers and acoustic vehicle alerting systems, alongside suspension and handling updates intended to reduce driver fatigue.

Funding interest in the medium-duty electric truck sector has grown as commercial fleets assess options for decarbonising delivery routes. Investors noted that the segment has historically deployed only small pilot fleets of electric vehicles, but adoption is expected to increase as fleet requirements evolve.

Harbinger continues to scale its U.S.-based manufacturing operations, citing domestic supply chain advantages as it increases production volumes. The company said its focus on onshore manufacturing has helped it maintain steady output amid trade-related disruptions.

THOR Industries recently unveiled a range-extended electric Class A motorhome built on Harbinger’s EV chassis. The vehicle, known as the Entegra Coach Embark, combines a battery-electric system with a low-emissions petrol generator and was recognised by Fast Company for its innovation.

Harbinger’s Series C round will support further production expansion as it prepares to introduce more electric models for medium-duty commercial fleets.
