Lummus Technology acquires environmental assets from Shell Catalysts & Technologies

Global energy technology provider Lummus Technology has acquired a portfolio of intellectual property assets and experienced personnel from Shell Catalysts & Technologies, expanding its environmental solutions platform and emissions-reduction capabilities.

The transaction originates from Shell’s Environmental Catalysts and Systems (ECS) business, a specialized unit of Shell Catalysts & Technologies focused on industrial air pollution reduction technologies. The acquisition strengthens Lummus’ process technologies, enhancing its capacity to deliver integrated, end-to-end solutions across refining, petrochemicals, and waste processing operations.

Among the acquired technology portfolio are specialized DeNOx systems, which are designed to significantly reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from industrial facilities and support compliance with tightening global environmental regulations without sacrificing operational efficiency.

Leon de Bruyn, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lummus Technology, noted that the acquisition immediately strengthens the company’s emissions-control capabilities while deepening cross-industry client relationships across the full lifecycle of industrial assets.

Elise H. Nowee, President of Shell Catalysts & Technologies, stated that the divestment positions the ECS business for continued growth and scaling under Lummus, building upon a long-standing partnership between the two energy technology firms.
