Renewable energy developer RWE and technology firm Google have announced a new power supply contract for RWE’s inaugural solar project in Oklahoma. Under the terms of the 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA), Google will purchase the total output generated by the 155-megawatt (MWac) Crooked Creek Solar facility located in McCurtain County.
RWE plans to commence onsite construction later this year, with commercial operations targeted to begin in 2028. Once operational, the facility will supply clean electricity to support Google’s operations within the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) market.
Ingmar Ritzenhofen, Chief Commercial Officer at RWE Americas, stated that the agreement reflects expanding demand for affordable, domestically produced energy, while driving local job creation and generating regional tax revenues. Will Conkling, Director of Energy and Power at Google, highlighted that adding new generation capacity to the regional system remains a priority to ensure a stable, reliable, and cost-effective grid as the company expands its digital infrastructure.
The project is projected to generate $24.3 million in local economic activity and $1.4 million in state and local tax revenue during its construction phase, creating up to 250 jobs at peak activity. Over its operational lifespan, Crooked Creek is estimated to provide $25 million in total revenue for McCurtain County, funding emergency medical services, local school districts, and regional technology education centres.
Crooked Creek Solar marks an expansion of RWE’s operational presence in Oklahoma, where it currently owns and operates the 148 MW Boiling Springs wind farm in Woodward County and retains a further 1.6 gigawatts of power projects in development across the state.
