Green technology provider Envision Energy has unveiled an artificial intelligence-powered energy system designed for the mining and smelting sectors at the All Energy Australia exhibition in Melbourne.
The hybrid energy framework combines wind power, solar generation, battery storage, and gas turbines capable of running on green hydrogen or green ammonia, coordinated by an integrated dispatch and control architecture. The platform targets the operational challenges of remote mining sites operating with weak or non-existent grid infrastructure, offering a reliable, low-cost green power solution.
Central to the architecture are Envision’s weather and energy AI foundation models operating on its proprietary EnOS AI platform. The software coordinates renewable generation and load forecasting, real-time dispatch, and system planning to balance power generation, energy storage, and industrial loads as environmental conditions fluctuate.
The system incorporates wind-storage integrated turbines to smooth output volatility and grid-forming battery storage to maintain voltage and frequency stability. A seven-layer protection and control framework manages system dispatch, stability control, and recovery, allowing off-grid installations to absorb sudden load shifts and maintain supply continuity following outages.
Key technical, operational, and commercial metrics of the energy system include:
- Performance targets: Designed to achieve an overall energy cost reduction of approximately 20 per cent, deliver a renewable electricity share exceeding 80 per cent, and maintain power supply reliability above 99.95 per cent, subject to local site conditions.
- Low-carbon backup: Integrates gas turbines fueled by green hydrogen or green ammonia as zero-emission alternatives to traditional diesel generators for long-duration backup power.
- ESG and carbon tracking: Features integrated energy and carbon management tools to support product carbon-footprint accounting, facilitating green mineral certification and ESG reporting for institutional financing.
- Deployment footprint: Complements ongoing commercial deployments, including supplying wind turbines for Fortescue’s Nullagine Wind Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region and operating an integrated wind, storage, and load system for green alloy production in Baotou, China, which avoids over 200,000 tonnes of annual carbon emissions.
Envision confirmed that its commercial offering covers project planning, engineering, equipment delivery, long-term operations, and capital financing options, assisting heavy industrial producers in reaching net-zero operational targets.
