Technology services provider NTT DATA has released its 2026 Sustainability Report for NTT Global Data Centers, detailing operational carbon reductions and energy efficiency gains alongside the continued expansion of its artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure.
The report highlights that NTT Global Data Centers has reduced its operational carbon emissions by 34 per cent since financial year 2021, even as global compute demand for artificial intelligence applications has surged.
Key operational metrics and achievements detailed in the report include:
- Renewable power procurement: Increased global renewable energy usage for non-IT load to 72 per cent, while doubling long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) compared to FY24 to reach 675 GWh.
- Energy efficiency ratings: Achieved a global average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio of 1.35 across its portfolio of data centre facilities.
- District heating integration: Exported 1.58 GWh of excess heat from its Frankfurt facility to support municipal heating networks in the local community.
- AI-ready technologies: Deployed artificial intelligence-driven cooling optimisation algorithms and liquid cooling capabilities to manage high-density processing loads.
Doug Adams, Chief Executive Officer and President of NTT Global Data Centers, stated that expanding digital infrastructure to meet AI demand must occur alongside improvements in operational efficiency and targeted carbon reduction strategies.
The company noted that these initiatives align with its broader Net-Zero Vision 2040, which aims to establish a low-carbon foundation for next-generation digital infrastructure.
