Trinasolar has expanded its commercial offerings in the Philippines to include both photovoltaic (PV) modules and utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) designed for integrated solar-plus-storage projects.
The strategy was unveiled by Trina Storage, the company’s dedicated energy storage division, during an industry seminar in Manila attended by representatives from the Department of Energy (DOE), DNV, and S&P Global Energy.
As wind and solar capacity expands across the Philippines, regional developers and grid operators are increasingly prioritizing utility-scale BESS to preserve grid stability and manage renewable integration. In particular, industry attention has shifted toward grid-forming BESS technologies capable of regulating voltage and frequency independently of external grid signals.
Trinasolar has maintained a presence in the Philippine market since 2013, supplying PV components to major infrastructure developments, including the recently commissioned 40MW Limbauan Solar Power Project (LSPP) in Isabela. Under the expanded business model, developers can procure both modules and storage hardware from a single supplier. The consolidated hardware procurement strategy aims to streamline project delivery timelines, mitigate supply chain complexity, and standardize long-term maintenance workflows.
The integrated product suite relies on two core hardware platforms:
- Trina Storage Elementa 3: A containerized utility storage solution delivering 6.25 MWh per unit. Powered by proprietary 587Ah cells, the system increases site-level energy density by 24.7% compared to previous generations, targeting a lower levelised cost of storage (LCOS).
- Vertex N G3 PV Modules: High-efficiency solar modules utilizing n-type i-TOPCon Ultra cell technology to deliver up to 760W of power output for utility-scale generation.
Dr. Leo Zhao, Head of Storage for Asia Pacific at Trina Storage, highlighted the operational advantages of the dual-offering strategy, stating: “As storage becomes an increasingly important part of project design, developers are looking for solutions that can integrate solar and storage effectively. With Elementa 3 available alongside our Vertex N modules, developers in the Philippines can access integrated BESS and PV hardware from a single source.”
