Zelestra, a global renewable energy developer, has partnered with ECODES and Microsoft to strengthen social and environmental investment in Aragón, Spain, alongside the development of two major solar projects.
Under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), Microsoft will buy clean electricity generated by Zelestra’s Escatrón II and Fuendetodos II solar farms in Zaragoza, which are currently under construction and will have a combined capacity of 95.7 MWac.
As part of the arrangement, the Aragón-based nonprofit ECODES will receive funding to deliver direct-impact programmes and lead grant-making efforts that support community-driven sustainability initiatives, particularly for vulnerable groups. The Community Funds will be channelled into expanding access to sustainable infrastructure, improving environmental health, advancing economic inclusion, and strengthening capacity among local organisations working with affected populations.
The initiative reinforces Zelestra’s global social investment agenda, guided by its “3 Es” strategy—Education, Energy and Environment—while supporting Microsoft’s carbon-negative ambitions and its Datacenter Community Pledge to build and operate digital infrastructure responsibly. The collaboration also aligns with ECODES’ mission to ensure an equitable and inclusive energy transition.
Scarlett Alvarez Uzcategui, Zelestra’s Chief Stakeholder and Sustainability Officer, said the partnership “aligns perfectly with our commitment to deliver meaningful, positive impact in the communities where we operate,” adding that Zelestra’s long-term presence in Aragón would ensure lasting benefits for local residents.
Cecilia Foronda, Head of Action for a Just Ecological Transition at ECODES, said the initiative represents “a unique opportunity to help accelerate the transition to a green, inclusive, and responsible economy in Aragón and across Spain,” stressing that ECODES would work closely with local stakeholders to ensure that “no one is left behind.”
Eoin Doherty, Microsoft’s Vice President and EMEA Regional Leader for Cloud Operations + Innovation, added: “As Microsoft grows its presence in Aragón, we are committed to advancing community prosperity, well-being, and sustainability. This collaboration is an important step in meeting our clean-energy goals while delivering tangible benefits to the local community.”
