Air Canada and Airbus partner to launch CAD$13.7m SAF platform

Air Canada and Airbus have announced plans to establish a jointly funded Sustainability Co-Investment Platform, pledging up to CAD10 million) to accelerate the commercial-scale production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Canada. The collaborative fund aims to push a targeted Canadian SAF project toward a Final Investment Decision, serving as a catalyst for a broader domestic production ecosystem alongside industry coalition C-SAF.

Parallel to the investment platform, Airbus has signed a five-year corporate travel agreement under Air Canada’s Leave Less Travel Programme. As part of this initial commitment, Airbus will purchase SAF environmental attributes linked to over 60,000 litres of fuel to offset corporate travel emissions from its employees, helping build domestic SAF market demand.

Valerie Durand, Vice President of Airport Affairs, Corporate Real Estate and Sustainability at Air Canada, stated, “Through this joint initiative with Airbus, we are taking meaningful steps toward supporting domestic SAF production, helping corporate customers address the emissions associated with business travel.”

Julie Kitcher, Airbus Chief Sustainability Officer, added, “Canada has a vast feedstock potential. When combined with a supportive policy framework, it can contribute to the sector’s decarbonisation ambitions and create significant economic growth.”
